Off-Grid, On My Own Terms: My Story, and Why I Built The Freedom Business Accelerator

There's a version of the off-grid dream that gets sold a lot online. Wake up with the sun. Grow your own food. Simplify everything. Want less, need less, be less tied to money and "the system."

I lived that version. And underneath the beautiful photos, I was quietly terrified about money almost every single day.

This is the real story — the messy middle that doesn't fit neatly into a reel, and the reason I ended up building The Freedom Business Accelerator.

THE DECISION THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

I didn't move off-grid because I wanted to escape ambition. I moved because I wanted more freedom, not less — more time, more presence, more say over how my life actually looked day to day. I wanted out of the conventional path that so many of us are handed without ever really choosing it.

So I made the leap. And for a while, it felt exactly like the dream I'd pictured.

Then reality caught up with me.

THE PART NOBODY WARNS YOU ABOUT

Here's what I wasn't prepared for: the second I stepped into an off-grid, alternative lifestyle, I quietly started shrinking myself.

Somewhere along the way I'd absorbed the belief that self-sufficiency and ambition couldn't sit in the same life. That if I wanted to live simply, I had to give up wanting nice things. That off-grid meant austerity — beans and hope, not beauty and abundance. I stopped letting myself want a business that made real money. I stopped letting myself want the trips, the home I loved, financial security, any of it — because somewhere I'd decided that wanting those things meant I wasn't "really" off-grid, or wasn't grateful for the life I'd chosen.

I had no reliable income. I was watching savings dwindle, doing ad hoc work that didn't come close to sustaining the lifestyle, and lying awake doing the maths on a life I was supposed to be loving.

If you're living this right now — tending land, in a van, on a barge boat, travelling full-time, or dreaming about making the move — I want you to hear this clearly: that fear isn't a sign you made the wrong choice. It's a sign nobody ever showed you how to fund the life you're building.

BUILDING MY WAY OUT

I didn't have a roadmap handed to me, so I built one.

I trained as an NLP practitioner (mindset coach) and learned business strategy from the ground up — not in theory, but by actually building something. I took my own skills, my own story, and my own experience and turned it into an online business that could fund the life I'd already chosen, instead of quietly working against it.

That process taught me something I hadn't expected: the business wasn't really the hard part. The hard part was everything underneath it — the self-doubt, the fear of being seen, the belief that I had to choose between "off-grid" and "ambitious." Once I did the inner work alongside the outer strategy, everything moved. I stopped shrinking. I let myself build something that could actually make money, not just make ends meet.

Today, I live semi off-grid in Spain, in the process of going fully off-grid with a borehole and solar hybrid system going in. I'm still building — toward real financial security, toward the kind of wealth that means my off-grid life is a choice I get to keep making, not a corner I've backed myself into. Off-grid, to me, means one thing: not relying on the system, being as self-sufficient as I choose to be, while still enjoying everything life has to offer. Thriving. Not surviving.

WHY I FOUNDED THE FREEDOM BUSINESS ACCELERATOR

Once I'd built my own way through, I started noticing something everywhere I looked.

Women exactly where I'd been. Already living the lifestyle — on the land, in the van, on the water, or fully mobile — and still financially dependent on a partner, still doing work that didn't sustain them, still lying awake with the same fear I used to carry. Capable, resourceful, already brave enough to have made the move. Just missing the piece nobody had ever given them: how to turn what they already had — their skills, their story, their passions — into a business that could actually fund the life they were living.

I couldn't stop thinking about them. So I built the programme I wish someone had handed me.
